The Forgotten Guidebook

This always happens.

I was so excited about my trip to Ogijima that I bought the official guidebook for the Setouchi Triennale 2013 a couple of weeks ago...and then I forgot to bring it with me. Sigh.

This is what happens when you don't pack ahead of time. I always dump a whole bunch of clothes in my suitcase while getting ready for work and make a mad dash out the door. This usually leads to forgetting essentials like toothbrushes and cellphone chargers. And this time, the guidebook.

I think we did okay without it (pictures to come!) but I wanted to show you the pretty map and pictures in the guidebook anyways! :D

  1. The guidebook is a work of art, too! So what are you doing without it? Just following your nose? :)

PS: What DID you do without it? You've already left? If you're grave hopping with your ancestors, I assume you're in Okinawa now?

    1. It is, isn't it? I treat it as much reverence as my bible! :D

PS: My sister and I are pretty laid back when it comes to travelling. We know nothing goes according to plan so we tend to not make them and just ramble along wherever the path leads us. Also, we are currently in Ehime prefecture where our ancestors on our dad's side are!

  2. Yay! Shikoku! I love that island. My guidebook (official as well) looks very different to yours. At least the cover looks very different. It was very useful and I got to see almost everything that was necessary. I can't wait to see the pictures.

PS: Ehime is also a great place. I can't wait to go back someday. ^^

    1. Maybe your guidebook was for the spring season? This one is the one for summer/fall! I think there are several different exhibitions and programs depending on the season. I'll have to go look through my guidebook again when I get back, since I didn't have it with me! You definitely need to come back to Shikoku, it needs all the visitors it can get ;D

I'll hopefully be able to post the pictures over the weekend!

    2. I just read your book cover and it says Summer/Fall? Mine is for all 3 seasons. I need to read it in more detail, but I was pretty tired when I read it the first time.

I look forward to the pictures. I hope to be there again next year, but who knows. Plans change too often. :(

    3. Oh you had the whole year in your book? That's great for people who plan to go all seasons!

Do you know if they are going to do this again next year? I think I heard that the previous one was in 2010. It would be great if it were an annual event since I'll always come home to my parents place through Takamatsu :D

    4. I only saw the book for the whole year, but I bought it very early. Maybe the one I have is out of print.

It won't be done next year. It is only once every 3 years. The next one will be 2016. :( I'm sure there is a lot to see in Takamatsu anyways. Some of the things will stay. Ogijima is a great place to just relax.

    5. Once every 3 years? That's great, it makes that period all the more special and it means the islands can have relative peace and time to recover/prepare :D
